STU, PTx or Spec7? Show me the money.
 (United States)

Interesting?

From MazdaSpeed / MazdaMotorSports:

If we run STU in SCCA we get :

w/3 or more cars: $500, $300 and $100. PER RACE Not bad. Plus any tire contingency. - Don't start Travis

Year end SCCA Championship get's $800.

NASA we run PTF no payout until eof season then its:

$1000, 750, 500, 250, 150. Not bad either. ( Hey! I was 5th this year!)

Now which class we running? :) LOL....

STU is a national class, that's why it pays. Get your national license and then you can play... and so can I in STU, so let's do it!!!! Surely I can beat an SRX7 easier than  having to run EP for the $500 per race.

Very funny Uppul, knew some smart ass would go there ;)

Bugger, I did not know STU was National, I guess i got it wrong when Tony mentioned it. I thought it was one of the new regional classes. Bugger.

Mark, you can drive in STU? Forget it.  Guess I'm back to being a broke SRX7 regional racer, BooHoo.... I had dreams of grandeur or at least $500 every now and again. Bugger.

STU is about equivalent to World Challenge Touring.  However, hardly anyone runs it in this region, so if you keep it quiet possibly just SRX7's.

Now you start to see how I ran the RX8 cheaper than SRX7.  Almost every weekend was $1,000 cash from Mazda and 4 new tires from Hoosier.  End of season was about $1,400 from Mazda.  Of course you pay taxes on all of that.

Lowell is registered STU for TMS May 1-2. He's the only one right now and I bet will be the only one unless some other SRX7 come out.

Who else wants to come play? if you don't have a National License, you can get a waiver, I just did and bet most SRX7 racers could as well. Waiver fee is only $25 and just prove you know what you are doing on track with mylaps results.

Mazda pays $500 - 1st, $300 - 2nd, $150 - 3rd, (comes on a debit card but you can use it at the ATM). Must finish ahead of 3 other competitors to get full payout otherwise ahead of 2 and reduce by 25%, ahead of 1 and reduce by 50%.

Hoosier pays 2 tires for 1st and 1 tire for 2nd, 3 starters required for 1st and 5 starters for 2nd.

Let's go collect some contingency!

I ran STU last race at Eagles Canyon.  Sent in the paperwork, so waiting for the money...  Only had to try and keep up with a Z4....  At least I was within 8 seconds of him :)  I think he may  be showing up at TMS, but it's still fun to race and get the 2nd and 3rd place money.  Just be ready for the 30 minute tech tour.  Also have to make sure all of your decals are current and in the right place.  We were also racing in the SM group, so it was fun to be back in a crowd with some bumping and drafting.

Looks like that Z4 is from Chicago, not sure why he makes the haul for STU. I see Tony also ran STU as did Pete Davis (ITA CRX) that weekend. So, who's in for TMS?

Edit: I thought I could run STU but after looking at the rules again, I don't think I qualify, guess I have to run EP, better for you.

Even though he's from Chicago, he's tied to Classic BMW in Plano somehow....  Mentioned he had another Z4 to sell.  He's the guy that won SSB last year in a hardtop bmw.  Cover of Sports Car....  Really nice guy.

With Tom gone all you need is a half decent car or half decent driving skills to get on the podium in EP, and there's always enough cars to get Mazda and tire money... pretty sure you're getting the better end of that stick.

EDIT: I *was* looking at going the EP route, then I drove a Sports2000. Think I'm gonna take 2.0L and 13x6 slicks for now...

Snader and Kosdrosky are pretty fast, it takes more than a half decent car or driver to beat them, more like a good driver and good car. Add in the possiblity of out of division front runners and a podium finisher is not just for half decent cars or drivers. A R/N weekend and things are much different than a N/N. I know some of the EP times are a little on the slow side but when I last looked there was already 8 or 9 registered for TMS and I'm going to wait until the last day to register.

Re: STU, PTx or Spec7? Show me the money.

Snader IS fast, but they've always had reliability problems. They're way down on power with a good reliable drivetrain, but making finishes with more power is difficult. Now they're running into other issues, at TWS it was fuel pump/fuel delivery. The handling and brakes on that car are unbeatable -- in that area they are very much an overdog, but the lack of power really throws a wrench in their game, especially out of division. I don't know Kosdrosky, but with Mike Hart gone I don't think there are really any Nationally competitive cars in the division other than Snader... and then I have my "decent driver" fallback. I see a lot of cars that look well built, seem to have power, but they have 20mph (maybe that's an overexaggeration) less exit speed so it doesn't matter how much or how good the rest of the package is, there's no overcoming that deficit, legally.

There are QUITE a number of solid mid-pack cars and drivers, though. I dare say if you built something with conservative/cheap power, reasonable handling, you could have just as much of a race as SRX7 or IT on your hands, and still have a shot at podium if you come out on top.

I need to go find that post from last year where Mark said he was faster than me and I called B.S. as I was faster than Tom and I don't see many going fast as Tom in EP for a long time. :)

Damn, I haven't even ran an EP race or been out on slicks yet and you two are already jealous. TMS in 2 weeks on USED slicks and then you can talk some trash or bow to my greatness :)

LOL, if anyone challenges Tom's times I hope it is you, but I see you dropping 2-4 seconds, not 8-10!
